New Work: Hlidskjalf
In Norse Mythology there sits at the top of the world, the great throne of Odin Allfather, Hlidskjalf. From here the God could see into every kingdom and into the thoughts and deeds of every living creation. Situated in the hall of Valaskjalf, one of Odin's three dwellings, it is described as an elevated place 'from which he could percieve all that passed throughout the whole earth'.
My intention in this image was to capture the frozen, lonely heights that such a vantage point commands. In this self-portrait, he is accompanied by his loyal ravens, Hugin and Munin, as well as his wolves, Geri and Freki.
